Giffnock police were alerted to rogue traders claiming to be registered waste carriers.
A resident paid to have their refuse removed only for it to be illegally fly-tipped in the middle of the road.
They advise that rogue traders will take payment before dumping waste and, on investigation, the waste can be traced back to the resident.
Councillor Vincent Waters, environment convener, said:“Using our civic amenity sites or excellent special uplift service helps keeps East Renfrewshire a clean place to enjoy.
