EAST Renfrewshire Council's workER team is to host an open day for the Get Ready for Work Programmes in the area next Wednesday, January 16.

The Get Ready for Work programmes are open to 16 - 19 year olds and aim to ensure that each young person on the programme has the best opportunity to move into employment, further training or education.

The team will ensure that all young people are referred to the most appropriate provider or alternatively are allocated an advisor to work with them to move forward.

Get Ready for Work providers such as workER, JHP and Workingrite will be in attendance and details of the courses and job opportunities will be available. Skills Development Scotland will also be attending to provide support and guidance.

The workER team will be promoting its course that will involve a Skills for Success programme designed to improve employability skills and confidence in order to progress further. The course also includes gaining a CSCS Card and training towards an NPA in Construction carried out at Barrhead Skills Centre through Reid Kerr College. This will then be followed by an eight week work placement with an appropriate employer.

Elaine Cheatley, who manages the programme for East Renfrewshire Council, said: "The courses provide a great opportunity for young people in East Renfrewshire. The courses are delivered locally and trainees will receive first class training, work experience with a local employer and they will receive £55 per week training allowance."

Tommy Reilly, senior lecturer at the Barrhead Skills Centre added: "This is a wonderful opportunity for young people to enhance their employment skills and forge relationships with potential employers."

Anyone interested in find out more on this opportunity should attend the open day on Wednesday January 16 between 10am and 2pm at workER, James McGuire Building, 124 Main Street, Barrhead. Staff will be available to provide further details on eligibility and how to apply.
