TWO women lawyers who both spent months on the dole despite brilliant academic results refused to give up on their dream, and are now running Neilston's only legal office.

Former St Luke's pupils Emma Nicholson, 39, from Barrhead, and Sharon Collins, 24, from Neilston, faced a long and difficult struggle to get their break in the legal profession - even although Sharon, for example, was dux of St Luke's and gained eight straight A results.

"I can relate to people facing job difficulties because at one time it seemed impossible to get an entry into the profession, even with a Masters degree," said Sharon.

"But one day I just decided I had to change things, and got my suit on and went out determined to get something started."

Now both women have considerable practical experience to their credit with a well known local legal company, and - thanks to recently-opened community hub The Bank - have an "outreach" facility in Neilston, with a surgery on Fridays from 9am till 5pm.

"It is a very exciting project," said Sharon, "and is an early example of what I think The Bank will be all about."
