STATION: The thugs got off at Barrhead and fled along Carlibar Road
FOUR cowardly football hooligans fled along Barrhead's Carlibar Road after beating up a teenager who tried to stop them singing sectarian songs.
And now British Transport Police are studying "clear evidence" of their identities from the CCTV cameras which scan the town's railway station - while appealing for anyone who knows those responsible to come forward.
The attack happened on the busy 4.42pm Glasgow Central to Kilmarnock train service on Saturday, in full view of horrified passengers.
The culprits left the railway station at Barrhead just before 5pm, as that train would normally arrive at 4.53pm.
Violence erupted after a 16-year-old youth on the train challenged the four hooligans, who had been alarming other passengers.
After an angry verbal exchange the youth was punched on the head and body and had a bottle thrown at him.
He was taken to Paisley's Royal Alexandra Hospital by ambulance where he was treated for head and face injuries.
Detective Constable Raymond Grimley said: "This was a violent and unsavoury incident leaving other passengers on the train shocked.
"Although we have very clear CCTV footage of those involved, I am urging anyone who was on the train or at the station and has knowledge of the identity of those suspected of the assault to contact BTP as a matter of urgency."
The four men are all said to be in their mid-20s. One was wearing a grey striped football top with green sleeves, while a second is said to be 6ft with blond hair.
A third is described as 5ft 8in and heavily built with short brown hair, and was wearing a green and white football top, black tracksuit trousers and training shoes.
The fourth man is thin built and 5ft 11in with short brown hair, and was wearing a black jacket and navy trousers.
British Transport Police can be contacted on 0800 405040 or information can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
