Water Mess

Profile by Amanda Keenan

A LOCAL councillor has hit out at Scottish Water after they failed to clean up raw sewage outside a young mum"s home.

Councillor Danny Devlin is demanding the company take action to resolve the problem before the family"s health is put at risk.

He said: 'It is appalling that a young mother with three children has to wade through human waste to get in and out of her home.

'This is a company which has recently raised water prices, yet they cannot repair sewage outside Suzanne Dougan"s home.

'I am demanding that urgent action is taken place by Scottish Water as soon as possible.'

Speaking at her flat in Fenwick Drive, Suzanne, 29, who gave birth to her son Blair 10 weeks ago, said: 'I have been living with this mess for months now and the smell is disgusting.

'Everytime I go out I have to push my pram through the sewage which has now turned green and the mess is now inside my home.

'I am at my wits end and I am worried that either Blair or my two other boys Gary, 11, and Jack, eight, will get ill.

'They have to walk through the mess in the morning going to school and it ends up on their trousers and shoes.

'I am constantly wiping the waste from all of our shoes and from the wheels of the pram.'

Suzanne has contacted Scottish Water and claims she was told that the problem is being caused by a leakage - and to properly repair the leakage part of the road will have to be dug up.

She added: 'Although they have acknowledged the problem there is no sign of fixing the leakage anytime soon.

'I would be happy at the moment if they cleaned up the waste outside but that has not happened yet.

Councillor Devlin added: 'Scottish Water has to realise that it is not acceptable to allow human waste to spill on to the street.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: 'The problem is being caused by leakage from a burst pipe. We will be starting work in Fenwick Drive in the next few weeks.'
