A VILLAGE primary school celebrated its fundraising skills by handing over a cheque worth £150 to Down’s Syndrome Scotland.

St Thomas’ Primary, in Neilston, raised the cash through a series of charity events in the past few months and presented the cheque to Down’s Syndrome Scotland at an assembly last week.

As well as participating in the charity’s ‘Lots of Socks’ celebration in March, the children also organised a chocolate tombola, with the proceeds from both of these being donated.

A ‘guess the teddy bear’s birthday’ fundraiser topped up the amount which was handed over to charity staff on Friday.

Staff at the school said pupils have made a great effort to support the worthy cause.

As well as Down’s Syndrome Scotland, pupils and staff at St Thomas’ Primary have also worked this year to raise money for other groups and charities.

The Marie Curie cancer charity has benefitted from fundraising events at the school and further initiatives involving pupils there will take place before the summer break.
