Determined children coined in hundreds of pounds for a camping trip by inviting people round for a cuppa or two.

Dozens of people gathered at the 1st Neilston Boys’ Brigade event to enjoy browsing a variety of stalls selling everything from books to bric-a-brac.

A tombola and a raffle also took place to raise funds that will help pay for the group’s visit to Lapwing Lodge Outdoor Centre, in Paisley, later this year, where they will take part in activities such as climbing, archery and cycling.

Almost £500 was raised at the event, which took place in the hall at Neilston Parish Church.

Fiona Spooner, one of the Boys’ Brigade officers, said: “The money raised will be so helpful in making sure we can get the boys to Lapwing Lodge, where they will enjoy all sorts of activities.

“It’s a chance for them to do something a wee bit different and it allows them to bond with other kids of different ages.

“We had a good time at the coffee morning and had lots of stalls there.

“I’d like to thank everyone who attended and everyone who donated cash to us.”
