AN East Renfrewshire theatre is to host a string of standout shows throughout 2018 to celebrate its 45th anniversary.

Renowned as the area’s entertainment hub, Eastwood Park Theatre is to mark the Sapphire milestone with a specially-designed programme of performances.

The Giffnock venue has been wowing audiences since its doors first opened on January 8, 1973, for a showing of The Schoolmistress, by Giffnock Players’ Club.

A series of events have been planned for the first half of the year, including musical hit The Legends of American Country, featuring the top tracks of world-famous country artists throughout January.

Valentine’s favourite Ae Fond Kiss will be staged on February 13 to regale theatregoers with the tale of national poet Robert Burns, all set to music.

And youngsters can catch the ever-popular Little Red Riding Hood on the same day, with that production being delivered by the creative team behind the Hairy Maclary Show.

Former River City star and comic Gary Lamont will take his stand-up routine to the theatre on March 9.

Then, on April 29, audiences can enjoy the H.G. Wells classic The Time Machine.

Eastwood Park Theatre staff are also readying themselves for The Wedding Reception on May 12. This interactive comedy dining experience will see the audience become guests at a surprise wedding, complete with a three-course meal.

Anthony McReavy, East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure chief executive, said: “We’re celebrating 45 years of Eastwood Park Theatre bringing entertaining performances to the local area and being such a big part of our community.

“We offer a wide range of shows to suit all ages, from drama and dance to tribute acts and comedy. We also have great kids’ shows and films, as well as our sell-out pantomime performances at Christmas.”

A special offer which allows one member of a 10-strong group to go for free is available for most shows at Eastwood Park Theatre.
