HARD work and community spirit prevailed in Neilston as more than £1,000 was raised at an annual summer fair, writes Monica Gibson.

The event at Neilston Church Hall, in the village’s Main Street, proved to be popular with people of all ages.

Barbara Wilson, who is Session Clerk, said there were plenty of attractions on offer to keep guests entertained.

She told the Barrhead News: “We had a hook-the-duck event, where all the wee ducks were in a paddling pool, and the children just loved it.

“There were also pancakes made in-house and there were lots of lovely cakes for people to enjoy. There were also hot dogs for sale, crafts and tombola stalls.

“This year, we also had a plant stall. The plants were all from McLaren nurseries and every single one was sold. They were very popular indeed.”

Mrs Wilson also said that, while the weather was not in their favour, organisers of the event were delighted to see everyone enjoying themselves.

As an added bonus, the event raised a healthy sum of cash.

Mrs Wilson added: “We raised a total of £1,035, which was remarkable when you consider that the fair only ran from 10am until noon.

“All of the raffle prizes and bottles were donated and the money we raised at the event will go towards the Neilston Church Fund.

“We normally have a Christmas fair and a summer fair each year.

“It does take quite a lot of organising but, when you think about the money that was raised and the amount of fun that was had by those who came along, you cannot help but think how lucky we are.”
