A DETERMINED pair of sisters from Neilston have raised almost £600 for charity by walking six miles to support sick children, writes Monica Gibson.

Katie Harvey, 11, and her eight-year-old sibling Emily took part in the The Wee Wander Kiltwalk, in Balloch.

They were joined by mum Gayle as they completed the challenge in aid of Calum’s Cabin, which offers holiday respite for youngsters suffering from cancer.

Gayle, 40, said: “After about the third lap, Emily started saying she was a wee bit tired but there were posters and inspirational messages all around which helped us battle through.

“Emily pointed to them and said ‘that’s why we are doing it, mum, we are helping the sick kids.’

“By the time she saw her grandparents at the finish, she was full of smiles and was doing cartwheels.

“An ice-cream afterwards helped as well but she more than deserved it.”

Gayle, who works in the dental unit at Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital, has thanked everyone who supported their fundraising effort.

She added: “It was really lovely and we will definitely be taking part again next year.
