VILLAGERS in Neilston reckon a new gym fits the bill perfectly.

The revamped fitness suite at Neilston Leisure Centre has been expanded to take in a larger area and has been upgraded with the latest equipment.

Neilston man Matt Drennan, who was among those to visit the new gym on opening day, said: “It’s a cracking facility for local people and has a good range of equipment.

“I’d encourage everybody to use it as it’s really handy for people living in the village. I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the new gym opening.”

Fellow gym user Jill Kennedy added: “Until now, people from Neilston who wanted to use a gym have usually had to go out of the village to Barrhead or Paisley. Now we’ve got a good gym of our own, there’s no need to go elsewhere.”

Bosses at East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure (ERCL) are confident the new gym will be a big success.

Anthony McReavy, ERCL chief executive, said: “The new, bigger gym has a wide range of cardio, strength and free weights equipment.

“The people of Neilston have been asking for better leisure facilities and that’s exactly what we are giving them.

“Our aim is to make it as easy as possible for people to become more active, fit and healthy. If you stay in Neilston, you now have a great new gym facility right on your doorstep.

“We have worked closely with our colleagues at East Renfrewshire Council to deliver this new gym, which is the latest upgrade to our leisure facilities following the opening of the Spin Studio at the Barrhead Foundry in January.”
