A CAMPAIGN led by Neilston Scouts received another boost when they held a successful fundraiser.

Members of the 1st Neilston Scout Group held a spring coffee morning to raise funds for a new hall in 2007 after Neilston Scout Hall was burned to the ground by vandals three years previously.

The group lost everything in the hall including vital equipment destroyed by the fire.

They then campaigned to raise enough cash to build a new facility.

The Scouts moved to St Thomas’ Primary and Neilston Parish Church Hall.

A total of £695 was made at the event which took place in Neilston Parish Church grounds.

It was to be added to an estimated £30,000 fund – the result of the hard work of the Scouts who hosted various events to publicise their plight.

Organiser Jimmy Pearson said: “We have had a lot of support from the people in the village including donations.

“We would like to thank all parents and friends who contributed both prior and on the day towards its success and also Neilston Parish Church for allowing the group to use their facilities.”
