TWO woman are celebrating an incredible weightloss after being prompted by serious health conditions.

Carol Hamilton, 58, from Paisley shed an impressive six and a half stone with Weight Watchers and is enjoying a healthier weight and lifestyle.

Meanwhile, Madeleine Hamilton, 30, from Neilston is living life to the full after losing a fantastic three and half stone.

Carol was 15st 12lbs before a warning from her doctor inspired her to sign up to her local meeting and kick-start her weight loss journey.

Her weight first escalated after having her two children, when she comfort ate when her then husband was night shift and her daughters settled in bed for the night.

The single mum, who was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease as a child, would binge on snack food and was frequently out at the ice cream van to stock up on more sugary treats. In May 2013 she joined Weight Watchers meeting at Abbey Mill Business Centre in Paisley and later to the David Lloyd Club in Renfrew.

In May 2016 Carol reached her goal weight having lost an incredible 91lbs, meaning she currently now weighs in at 9st 5lbs.

She said “I couldn’t have done it without the support Phyllis gave me and that of the rest of the class – everyone is there for you, we all support, motivate and inspire each other.

“Through my weekly meetings I’ve made many great friends and learned lots of great hints and tips.”

Although losing the weight massively improved Carol’s overall health, unfortunately during this time her kidneys were deteriorating so much so that by July 2016 her kidney function was now stage five – less than 15 per cent – and she was started on emergency haemodialysis.

Despite this she kept in regular contact with her coach, so that she still managed to stay on track with her weight and still get that invaluable support she needed.

She now has a home dialysis machine and is able to regularly come along to her meetings again, even helping out as well.

She is now on the transplant list for a new kidney and knows how important it is for her overall general health to be good.

Madeleine, a civil servant, first joined Weight Watchers in 2012 after suffering from depression and low self-esteem.

Weighing 13st 10 lbs, she used food as a comfort thinking this would make her happy but all it did was make her feel worse as the weight continued to creep up.

Her eating was out of control and she knew something needed to be done to stop the downward spiral that she was falling into.

She was sick and tired of going clothes shopping, trying to find clothes to make her look slimmer and finding that nothing fitted – she often would end up leaving the changing room in tears.

She decided to join her local Weight Watchers meeting in The Bank Café, Neilston after unsuccessfully trying to lose weight on her own before.

With the support of her coach and fellow members Madeleine soon became more confident.

Madeleine first reached her goal weight of 11st in August 2013 and continued to regularly attend her meeting in order to maintain her goal weight.

In May 2016 she decided to change her goal weight to 10st 5lbs in preparation for her wedding in Cuba in September 2016.

Madeline was delighted to be jetting off on a holiday of a lifetime feeling slimmer, trimmer and happier than she had been in years.

She said: “I love attending my meetings and wouldn’t have achieved all that I have without coach Phyllis; she has become my coach, mentor, friend, supporter and agony aunt.

“She is so passionate about helping us all on our weight loss journey that it makes every one of us want to do well.”
