A MAN who was arrested in connection with the death of 24-year-old Craig Kearney has been released by police.

Officers investigating the death of Mr Kearney, from Neilston, had detained the 46-year-old man yesterday.

He had been expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court today.

However, the Crown Office has tonight confirmed that the man has been released from custody pending further inquiries.

Mr Kearney, a keen amateur footballer who lived in Kingston Avenue, Neilston, was found with serious injuries in Lochranza Drive, East Kilbride, at about 2.20am on Sunday.

It's understood he had been on a night out to celebrate girlfriend Olivia Geraghty's 24th birthday.

Emergency services were sent to the scene but Mr Kearney died a short time later.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal received a report concerning a 46-year-old male in connection with an alleged incident in East Kilbride on March 5.

"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, he was liberated from custody pending further inquiries and did not appear in court."
