NEILSTON Primary pupils showed their stamina by taking part in a cross-country run for Sport Relief.

Children of all ages got involved in the event at the High Street school and pushed themselves to the limit as they did their bit to raise funds and awareness for the national charity.

The youngsters’ efforts were backed by numerous kind donations from friends and family which helped contribute to a nationwide total of almost £57 million at the time of publication.

The school also raised cash by holding a series of teachers v pupils sport matches and selling £1 Sport Relief wristbands.

Primary one, two and three children got involved in a host of high-scoring games of football, while pupils in primary four and five lined up to play netball against their teachers.

The school’s primary sixes and sevens then took to the court to face off against the adults in a round of keenly contested basketball fixtures.

Hundreds of primary schools up and down the country played their part and got active for Sport Relief.

Pupils from nearby Cross Arthurlie Primary also put their running shoes on for the charity and organised a cross-country run of their own in Barrhead’s Cowan Park.

A range of projects across the UK benefit from Sport Relief, with 50 per cent of the final total raised used to help thousands of people throughout Britain.

The other 50 per cent goes towards improving the lives of those who live in some of the world’s poorest communities.

In the last two years alone, the charity has enabled over 189,000 children to attend school and receive an education. Sport Relief donations have helped to provide life-saving vaccines for more than 734,000 children worldwide, while 23 projects which provide support for people living with dementia have also benefited.
