A NEILSTON man has denied claims he threw a hammer at a car and assaulted two men at a farmhouse.

Colin Montgomery, 28, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday in connection with an alleged disturbance on Saturday following the shooting of two dogs earlier that day.

We previously reported that police officers attended a farm in Barrhead on the morning in question after receiving reports that two dogs had been destroyed amid claims they had been "worrying" livestock.

Mr Montgomery, of Kirktonfield Road, pled not guilty to six charges.

He is charged with phoning a Mr Stephen Pritt, care of Police Scotland, on January 23 and making remarks that were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character and threatening him with physical violence contrary to the Communications Act 2003.

He is also charged with behaving in a threatening or a abusive manner which was likely to cause fear or alarm at Newhouse Farm on Springhill Road, Barrhead by shouting, swearing, brandishing a hammer and hitting a car with the hammer, contrary to the Criminal Justice and Licensing Act of 1995.

A further charge alleges that he was in possession of an offensive weapon, a hammer, at the same address contrary to the Criminal Law Act of 1995.

Mr Montgomery faces a fourth charge of acting in a threatening manner by kicking and striking the front and rear doors of Newhouse Cottage at Newhouse Farm and attempting to gain entry without permission.

He also denies a fifth charge of assaulting two men, Ian Reid and John Smith, care of Police Scotland, by throwing a hammer at the car they were in, smashing the side window of the car, causing broken glass to strike both men in the face and then striking Mr Reid on the shoulder.

He faces a sixth charge of causing fear or alarm by opening the door of a marked police vehicle at the same address and day and shouting and swearing at Mr Ian Reid who was seated in the vehicle at the time, contrary to Criminal Justice and Licensing Act of 2010.

Mr Montgomery pled not guilty to all the charges when he appeared in court on Monday. A trial date has been set for April.
