Martha Walne, aged 90, has been hunting high and low for the beloved heirlooms, after she thinks they slipped from her fingers while attending Neilston Parish Church.

The two rings, both made of gold and inset with diamonds, were given to her by her husband Frank who passed away almost 50 years ago.

Now Martha is appealing for anyone who may have seen the rings to come forwards, and help her track down the jewellery.

Speaking to The News, Martha said: “They mean an awful lot to me, they were given to me by my husband who passed away.

“I wear them both on my pinky but my fingers are a bit too small for the rings now — I think they have slipped off somewhere near the church or in the car going up to the church, but we can’t find them anywhere.

“They are very sentimental to me.” Martha, of the Dalmeny area of Barrhead, told how she attended Neilston Parish Church as normal on Sunday, August 9, when she noticed that the rings appeared to have slipped from her fingers.

Her nephew had run her to the church and they tore his car apart searching for the rings.

But their attempts to track them down appeared to be fruitless, and Martha contacted the police.

She continued: “They aren’t the most valuable rings in the world, they are nine carrot gold, and the engagement ring has three diamonds in it.

“But they very sentimental to me, and it would mean the world to me if someone was able to return them.” Martha, who has five children including two daughters and three sons, several grandchildren and even great-grandchildren, is even offering a reward for the safe return of her beloved rings.

She said: “If anyone has seen them, or if you have picked them up, either around the church or something like that can they please be returned to me.

“It would mean the world to me.” Anyone with any information on the rings whereabouts can contact Barrhead police on 101, or contact The News on 0141 435 8885.
