Reporter Sean Rooney has taken on the role of co-presenter on Wednesday during the station’s popular Breakfast Show.

On air from 6.30am, Sean joins long serving DJ Gus Michael and his partner in crime Amy Nelson.

This comes just weeks after the station announced that it would be going live on DAB digital radio in the near future — prompting a re branding of the station to drop it’s ‘FM’ monicker.

The move will see Pulse 98.4FM covering as far as Livingston, making it one of the largest community radio stations in Britain.

Graham Mann, Barrhead News editor, said: “This is a great opportunity for us to become a part of a fantastic community project.

“Pulse 98.4 have been brilliant with their support of the paper, and we look forwards to working with them as they enter this new and exciting chapter in their story so far.” Playing the latest chart hits, new music and classic tunes, the Breakfast Show runs from 6.30am until 10am every morning.

The News has been appearing regularly on Wednesday mornings at 8am to review that week’s edition of the paper.

However Gus Michael says he is delighted that Sean has been able to extend his stay.

He said: “It’s great that we have such a good relationship with the local paper.

“We are a local radio station first and foremost, and Sean being able to come on the show and share his knowledge of what is happening in the area is a great boon for us.” Gus believes that the move to DAB digital will allow the station to reach its true potential, and begin competing with the big commercial stations.

Gus said: “It is fantastic news for Pulse, and it means that we will now be able to begin expanding out coverage and really make a name for the station.

“We have a great little team here, and they have brought the station so far, from its humble beginnings in the back room of the Log In internet cafe on Barrhead Main Street, to where we are now.

“It will also help us bring in more money from advertising, and help us continue to run this community station to be the best it can be.

“We will remain a community station, and while we aren’t trying to be commercial, we do hope to compete with those stations for listeners.” Pulse FM currently has a full line-up including rock shows, drive time shows and football talk shows focusing on local talent and teams.

Pulse will continue to broadcast on 98.4FM and on DAB radio when it is rolled out later this year.
