Madras Family Centre has been repeatedly attacked by callous vandals in the last two years, and Neilston Community Repair (NCR) has come to the rescue on each occasion.

Matt Marshall and the dedicated team of volunteers have provided their services free of charge to the centre, which has had playground toys, an eco greenhouse and their garden attacked in the past.

But now funds are drying up to pay for the materials needed, and Matt has asked Neilston residents to back the charity and the family centre by inviting locals to a big fundraising event.

He said: “We’ve worked very closely with the nursery over the past couple of years.

“Repairing vandalised play equipment and re-vamping their garden furniture and last Easter, NCR funded the revamp of the garden furniture from donations we had received during our usual activities.

“Despite our best efforts we weren’t able to finish the eco greenhouse or paint the metal coloured railings. We are hoping that by holding this fundraiser, the nursery will be able to purchase the paint for the railings and the materials needed to finish the greenhouse.” NCR was set up in 2012 by Matt to provide basic handyman services to the people of Neilston who would not be able to afford or be physically able to do it themselves.

This included everything from simply changing a light bulb for an elderly person to decorating a nursery room for a hard-up family.

Matt added: “It is our hope that we will also raise enough money to allow us to freshen everything up again, to stop it all from getting into a poor state of repair again.

“We are happy, as always to do the work for nursery for free, but, unfortunately we can’t afford to cover the costs of materials this year.” The fundraiser will be held at Neilston Leisure Centre on April 13 between 10am and 4pm.

It will include storytelling and Bookbug for the young ones, a bake sale, a magic show by Scotland’s Magician, toy sale, tombola and a sponsored waxing.
