The search is on for nominations in the Helensburgh and Lomond Community Spirit Awards 2009.
The awards, run by the Helensburgh Advertiser in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Helensburgh Garelochside, are designed to pay tribute to the people who work selflessly to make our community a better place in which to live.
The initiative follows the very successful Community Spirit Awards run in recent years and will broadly follow the same format, giving readers the
opportunity to nominate people whom they believe deserve recognition.
The categories are as follows:
Citizen of the Year (to be voted for by Advertiser readers).
Unsung Hero of the Year.
Young Achiever of the Year.
Sports Person of the Year.
Musician of the Year.
Primary School Eco Champions (new category)
New Business of the Year (new category)
Readers are now invited to start making their nominations by using the form printed in the Helensburgh Advertiser.
Advertiser editor David Carnduff said: 'We are delighted once again to be launching the Community Spirit Awards in conjunction with the Rotary club.
"The success of the awards in the past has been down to the support shown by the community who have enthusiastically nominated candidates in all categories.
"We are calling on their support once again to give the deserving people in our community the opportunity to have their good work and skills recognised.
'One important aspect to bear in mind is that the Citizen of the Year will be voted for by our readers.
'A panel of judges will select the winners in other categories."
Mary Horswell of Rotary said: 'We are fortunate that Helensburgh and Lomond is home to many skilled and dedicated people who are active in a range of areas, whether it be the arts, sport, business, or who are caring for others less fortunate.
'Now is the chance for Advertiser readers to nominate someone whom they feel would be a fitting recipient of an award."
The awards ceremony will take place on April 27 at Helensburgh Golf Club.
As in previous years, the presentations will be made by Walter Smith, Manager of Rangers FC.
