East Renfrewshire Council successfully secured the grant for the Levern Works project.

It will help bring economic development, private sector investment and environmental improvements to the north part of the town.

And it will build on the significant regeneration work that has already been done by the council at the former Nestle site to ready it for private investment.

Five separate developments make up the Levern Works Project.

These will include more business units for Crossmills Business Park, site clearance and preparation of the Nestle site for future private sector developments extension of the Levern Water footway and cycle path and bringing greenspace and environmental improvements to the site.

East Renfrewshire Council also hopes to create and landscaped gateway to the Glasgow Road site that complements the already established and successful Waterworks project, which has seen old sewage talks transformed with flowers by local community groups.

Convener for infrastructure and sustainable growth, Councillor Tony Buchanan, welcomed the successful bid for the funding.

He said: “I’m delighted that we have been able to access these national funds for this project that will revitalise north Barrhead.

“Not only will this help transform neighbourhoods and deliver real benefits to local communities, it will also create new jobs and support existing ones.

“The Levern Works Project is a very exciting one for the town – it’s bringing derelict sites back into use and building a thriving space for businesses.

“It’s delivering real physical regeneration, just as council-led regeneration has done to the tune of £100 million in recent years.” East Renfrewshire’s £738, 724 grant is one of 18 in Scotland to share £14.3 million being allocated from the Regeneration Capital Grant Fund, developed by the Government with Cosla and Scottish councils
