William Murray’s twisted fascination with children came to light when police raided his home last year.

The 34-year-old appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court last week after having admitted the offence at an earlier hearing.

The court heard how seven officers swooped on Murray’s house, where he lives with his mother, in the town’s Blackbyres Road.

Computer equipment belonging to Murray was examined by police forensic experts who discovered indecent images of children.

Prosecutor Hazel Emmerson told the court some of the 27 pictures which were found were classified as level three — with level five being the most extreme there is — and others of levels one and two.

Murray admitted having the images in his possession, between August 1, 2012 and January 10, 2013.

He was also charged with distributing or showing indecent images but his not guilty plea to this offence was accepted by the crown.

Defence lawyer Tony Callahan, representing Murray, explained that his client handed himself into Barrhead Police Station on January 13 last year.

He also said that Murray had been suffering from manic depression and had attempted suicide on one occasion.

Sheriff Colin Pettigrew deferred sentence until November 21 to allow time for the preparation of background reports.

Bail was continued.
