Police were called to a property George Street by a distressed resident in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The householder had awoken to discover that their door had been tampered with during the night.
Officers said the resident had been left shaken, upset and confused by the incident and is unaware of any reason why they would have failed target to vandals.
Police have now urged anyone who saw somebody suspicious hanging around in the area at the time to contact them.
Anyone with with information can call officers on 101.
