East Renfrewshire Council has set up a week-long period for registration in January.

It will take place from 13 to 17 January between 1.30 and 3.30pm.

Those parents who have children who will be aged five between 1 March 2014 and 28 February 2015 should be registered.

To do so, take along your child’s birth certificate, child benefit statement, a current council tax notice, a utility bill and mortgage statement or rental agreement to your local school any time during the above hours.

Children must be registered at their local catchment primary, even if parents intend to make a placing request, defer the place for a year, educate them privately, or teach them at home.

Parents can choose their local non-denominational or denomination school.

Anyone wishing to make a placing request for their child to attend a school other than their local catchment primary must do so by January 31.

Applications for nursery school places are also now being accepted.

Parents should apply now if their child will turn three or four years old between 1 March 2014 and 28 February 2015.

All children aged three and four are entitled to a free place in an East Renfrewshire nursery, either five mornings or five afternoons.

Whether a child attends mornings or afternoons is selected by ballot and parents will be informed by April.

Applications should be made by 28 February – any received after this date will be treated as late and places allocated at a later date.
