MSP Jackson Carlaw says the weight of evidence in recent Barrhead News reports of the area's chronic potholes problem fully bears out his demand for a national road maintenance fund.

And he's backing our call for key demands to be put to the Holyrood administration as a matter of urgency - even although his plan was effectively ignored the first time around.

The west of Scotland MSP, who is deputy leader of the Scottish Conservatives and also the party's transport spokesman, says the scale of the problem in Barrhead is a perfect illustration of the wider malaise afflicting Scotland's decaying road network.

East Ren Council says it's investing the amount of cash it can afford, and after winter damage last year allocated extra funds for repairs, but it has ruled out major expenditure of the sort needed to make a real impact on the problem.

Meanwhile Mr Carlaw says the Scottish Government threw any hope of improvement into reverse gear by cutting the roads improvements budget by almost half.

And now we have challenged Mr Carlaw to take some key questions to Holyrood - including a timescale for improving Barrhead's treacherous roads.
