BARRHEAD councillor Eddie Phillips says the Friends of Cowan Park bid to transform the town's century-old recreation area offers the perfect opportunity to repaint "miles of rusty railings".
He says he's been lobbying for years to have the railings de-rusted and repainted, a job he concedes would be a mammoth task.
But he adds: "A number of years ago I helped Auchenback Active paint railings in the area which were finished off with the help of lads on Community Service Orders.
"One of the boys even went on to do a painting apprenticeship. CSO's have been replaced by Community Payback Orders but the principle is pretty much the same."
He added: "Now that we have FoCP we can get the materials, clothing and people on CPO's to do the work.
"It benefits the CPO people by giving them a physical task to do, keeps them out of mischief and who knows they might even get some satisfaction out of it.
"I think it would be a great project with many wins. I hope FoCP take it up."
