INJURIES: the pensioner was hurt on Kelburn Street

By Ewan McInnes

A PENSIONER is in a critical condition after falling outside a supermarket at the weekend.

Anna Klimek had been out shopping on Saturday afternoon when she fell suddenly and suffered a severe head injury near Tesco, on Kelburn Street.

Police officers and an ambulance were called at 3.10pm and raced to the scene where the 83-year-old had fallen.

It appears Mrs Klimek had been about to cross the road when she stumbled and hit her head.

After treatment the lady was stretchered into the ambulance and paramedics took her to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow for further analysis.

Mrs Klimek’s son Mark has told how the family are devastated at what happened but said she is fighting to pull through.

Mark said yesterday that his mum can only communicate by squeezing hands.

He added: “We can only hope for the best.

“She is still critical but it is better than we first feared when the police told us it didn’t look good. The doctor seems to think she has walked off the pavement and has then changed her mind, turned back and fallen.

“The police said she fell so quickly she had no chance to protect herself.

“It is likely to be a slow recovery that will take months.”

Speaking after the accident, one concerned eyewitness, who was on her way to a wedding at the Dalmeny Park Hotel, hopes Mrs Klimek recovers quickly from her injuries.

She said: “We were driving towards the hotel when we noticed quite a tailback of traffic.

“As we got closer we could see someone getting put into an ambulance while police were directing the traffic.

“Straight away we could see it was serious.

“We only hope that the woman is not too badly hurt and that she makes a full recovery.”

A spokesman for the police said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
