IT'S lights, camera, action for a group of talented Barrhead parents.

Members of Auchenback Young Mum's group are preparing to set foot on the catwalk for the first time to raise a bit of cash - and whilst it might not be Britain's Next Top Model, the prize at the end of this fashion show is a lot more valuable to the local community.

The money raised from the runway show will help fund the vital trips which help the parents bond and make friends.

Carrie McClure is one of the mums taking part in the show - and her one-and-a-half year old son will also join her on the catwalk.

She said: "We do a lot of things to try and bring people together like abseiling and trips to Xscape and other fun things that they can enjoy and become friends over.

"I think there are a lot of groups in Barrhead who do discos and things like that and we wanted to try and do something a little bit different to raise money.

"It's difficult to get funding right now and there are a lot of people in the same situation as us so we thought a fashion show would be a good thing to try and help us raise more funds."

Twelve of the group will take part in the show and several of them will be sharing the spotlight with their own children.

The 22-year-old organiser is understandably nervous, but can't wait to take part in the show.

She added: "I've never done one before so this is going to be a real challenge.

"It's all our kids modelling as well and they're all really excited about doing the show.

"We got to go down and pick our own outfits so they all got excited about that.

"My son is the youngest one taking part and even he's all happy."

"It sounds like it's going to be good fun.

Residents are keen to get along to the show, which will take place in the Matalan store in Darnley on August 1, and have been snapping up tickets for the event.

There are only 100 spaces left, although customers can also pay on the door.

And Auchenback resident Carrie is eager for more young people to join the group.

She said: "We're trying to increase the number of members we have because it's an inviting group.

"We'd encourage people to come along.

"We'll take everyone with kids and you get a cuppa and a chat and the chance to make a good circle of friends.

Young mums meet in the ARC every Friday morning.

Pop by and make some friends for life.
