A TOUCHING gesture has been made in honour of a Barrhead man who tragically died a year ago this week.
Barrhead Angling Club have planted a tree at the Glanderson Dam in memory of Scott James McLaughlin who died in a car accident last year.
And Scott's family, mum Pat, dad Frank and his sister Lee are said to be truly touched by the wonderful gesture from those at the club.
Scott was a dedicated fisherman and loved to fish at the Glanderson Dams and it is a fitting place for the tree to be planted.
On the anniversary of the accident a former colleague of Scott's at LEP on Blackbyres Road and a family friend, Robert Burns, has told of the Barrhead Angling Club's homage to Scott.
He said: "This is a fantastic tribute for a much loved man who was a great son, brother and a friend to many in Barrhead.
"Scott's family have been truly touched by this gesture.
"It just doesn't feel like a year ago the accident happened but planting this tree at the Glanderston Dam is a great way to celebrate Scott's life.
"Scott was a good friend and it was a pleasure to know him.
"He liked a drink now and then and he liked to have a laugh when he popped into some of the pubs in the town but he loved relaxing at home listening to music, was a keen reader and had a big interest in the fishing."
On January 2 last year, Scott is thought to have taken ill while at the wheel of his silver Volkswagon Golf and lost control as he was driving home to Barrhead.
A concerned elderly couple drove past Scott's car which had crashed into a ditch on Caplethill Road and when they turned back to see if he was okay they found him slumped over the driving wheel, which was when they contacted emergency services.
The 33-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene and heartfelt tributes began to pour in to the office of the Barrhead News.
