FIRST CLASS REPORT IS TRIBUTE TO HARD WORK

EDUCATION watchdogs have said a top nursery in the area provides "excellent" facilities for meeting youngsters" learning needs.

And Arthurlie Family Centre was also awarded four "very good" ratings when Her Majesty"s Inspectorate of Education (HMIe) visited two months ago.

Inspectors went to the 163-pupil nursery in May and their report published last week (Wednesday June 24) judged the centre"s meeting of learning needs to be excellent.

Improvements in performance, children"s experiences, the curriculum and improvement through self-evaluation were deemed to be very good at the nursery.

After the examination, the nursery"s strengths were highlighted in the leadership of headteacher Rosamund Roberts and the involvement of pupils, staff and parents in developing a shared vision and sense of community.

The nursery was also praised for its very effective arrangement in supporting children when they move on to primary school.

Inspectors recommended that the centre should continue to build on the high quality of teaching and learning.

The education authority will inform parents about the nursery"s progress as part of the authority"s arrangements for reporting to parents on the quality of its pre-school.

Headteacher Rosamund Roberts is glad the nursery has been complimented and she reckons the nursery is improving all the time.

She said: 'Everyone at Arthurlie Family Centre is delighted with the report.

'It is a tribute to the hard work of pupils, staff and parents and support from the council.

'The report recognises our strengths. It asks us to continue to build on our success and that"s something we do every day.'

East Renfrewshire Council education convener, Councillor Alan Lafferty said: 'I congratulate everyone at Arthurlie Family Centre for this first class report which is a fine example of public service excellence in action.

'I was particularly happy that the inspectors noted that pupils are safe, nurtured and included, for that is the hallmark of an excellent nursery school.'
