A MAN who went missing from his Barrhead home last week has been found dead.
David Collins Barr was reported missing last Monday by his wife who last saw him at their home in Auchenback at 6.15am.
A week-long police appeal followed in the hope of the 58-year-old"s safe return home.
But on Monday a grim discovery was made when a body recovered from the River Clyde was identified as Mr Barr.
His devastated family are now coming to terms with the tragic news.
Police appealed in last week"s edition of the News for any information regarding the whereabouts of Mr Barr.
He was considered vulnerable because of health problems and it is thought he did not have any medication with him.
Police said there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and thanked everyone who assisted with their appeal.
A report on the circumstances will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal.
A neighbour of Mr Barr"s yesterday said she saw people taking down the missing person signs which had been circulated in an attempt to track him down.
She expressed sympathy for the family saying: 'It is heartbreaking.
'I know his wife from going round the area with our dog.
'She talks away to us and she is a lovely woman who always talks to us about our house but I haven"t seen her since he went missing.
'I know what she must be going through because my sister went through the same when her man went missing.
'She must have been going out of her mind with worry when he was missing.
'My heart goes out to her and her family.'
Rita Connelly, a volunteer at the Auchenback Resource Centre, said she was sad to hear of the Barrs" tragic loss.
She said: 'He was a man who always gave you a nod and a smile and always said hello when he passed you in the street.
'He was very civil and well turned out. When he went missing we were all concerned about him and I am sorry to hear about his passing.'
