TOWN HIT BY SWINE FLU

A BARRHEAD mum is the first confirmed case of swine flu in the town.

But it has been claimed that health officials this week FAILED to inform the local authority that the nurse who lives locally contracted the infection.

It is believed that she picked up swine flu while working at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Now there are fears that local school kids may have been exposed to the strain as her children attend Auchenback Primary school.

A spokesman for East Renfrewshire Council said: 'We would have been happier if we had been informed by the health board.

'The mother did inform the headmistress of Auchenback Primary school when she was diagnosed with swine flu.

'But because of patient confidentiality this information could not be passed on.'

'We will have to discover why this has slipped under the net and we will raise this with public health.'

The children aged five and nine have been tested and are yet to show any symptoms of swine flu.
