THE next generation of maestros returned to music class at the weekend under the tutelage of Diane Mitchell.

Starting back after the Easter break, pupils from the Diane Mitchell Music School returned for lessons offering a fun but structured approach to musical teaching.

Attending Saturday’s sessions was a mixed group made up of very young tots and slightly older children from the ‘maestros’ age class.

Diane said: “We had eight tots and seven older kids, with another few joining us next week.

“Groups like this are very well attended and give youngsters a chance to learn the basics of music.

“Using the Kodaly, we eventually get kids to the stage where they are able to read music themselves.

“We use percussion, puppets and other instruments to teach the children about beat, rhythm and pitch.”

Operating out of Barrhead Evangelical Church, the school, which also has a permanent base in Paisley, is now on the hunt for a long-term home in Barrhead.

Classes run every Saturday throughout the school’s term-time.

The numbers attending are never higher than 12, to ensure that the quality of teaching is as good as possible.

As well as the group sessions, the music school offers private tutoring in a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, violin, keyboard, singing and drums.
