BARRHEAD’S artist group came together at the weekend to display the best of the town’s creative talent in their annual exhibition.

The Barrhead Artists, who are now in their 25th year, were back after a year off to show what the group’s members had to offer.

Held in St Andrew’s Parish Church Hall, the event opened on Friday evening with a well-attended preview show

before opening the doors to the

public on Saturday.

More than 80 people headed along to view the work of the 16 local artists, with many of the eye-catching paintings, designs and china pieces being snapped up.

Margaret Lockyer, the group’s secretary, said: “It went really well, especially since this is the first time we held it over only one day.

“Normally, we have it spread across a week or so but we got much better traffic on Saturday because people were coming along for this, and

we got some passers-by as well.

“The preview night went especially well and everyone seemed to really enjoy it.”

While Barrhead Artists has been around since 1993, there has been an art club in the town as far back as 1907.

This year marks the 23rd Barrhead Artists exhibition.

With numbers down somewhat on previous years, the group is now trying to encourage new members to try their hand and come along.

Ms Lockyer added: “We are very keen to get new members and everyone would be very welcome.”
