TWO schoolgirls did some good during the Easter holidays by holding a jumble sale for charity.

The event at the home of Emma McKelvie saw the eight-year-old and friend Kayla Douglas raise £60 for the Royal Hospital For Children, Glasgow.

The sale was the culmination of the Barrhead girls’ hard work through their school holidays.

Emma’s mum, Lynne, said: “The girls just wanted to do something good and rewarding with their holidays so they started to go around neighbours.

“The day was a success and the girls enjoyed themselves because it was a really important thing they were doing, showing people the importance of giving to others.”

The items for sale on Friday were gathered by the two girls from friends, family and neighbours and were on offer to anyone walking by Emma’s home in Langdon Crescent.

Emma and Kayla also spent time baking cakes and planting seeds in pots for the event in the hope of helping children requiring specialist care.

Kirsten Sinclair, the charity’s director of fundraising, said: “It’s really special when children and young people fundraise to help other children in hospital, and the girls have put a lot of hard work into their fundraising.

“We are so grateful to Emma and Kayla for their incredibly kind support. Well done and thank you to everyone.”
