Caring staff at Barrhead Travel have donated thousands of pounds to fund a fresh water tank that will transform young lives in Africa.

The team took on a range of activities to raise money for the children of Songeni Primary School, in Kenya.

Just a Drop – a charity which supports communities around the world with access to sustainable water solutions and safe sanitation facilities – will receive £8,000 from the travel company.

Brendan Hanlon, head of fundraising and communications at Just a Drop, said: “We’re thrilled Barrhead Travel have reached the target to fund Songeni School.

“Work has already started to build the water tank and it should be ready by the time the rains come, so the 139 children there will soon have safe water all year round.”

Since being launched in 1998, Just a Drop has reached more than 1.4 million people in 32 countries across the globe.

Mr Hanlon added: “This will transform the lives of these children. All the great people at Barrhead Travel should feel very proud of their achievement.

“We’re very grateful and looking forward to continuing our partnership, raising funds for our next project.”

Barrhead Travel bosses encourage staff to hold fundraising events throughout their branches and departments, with teams taking part in everything from half-marathons to bake sales.

Customers are also encouraged to make a small donation of 50p per passenger when booking their holiday.

Sharon Munro, CEO of Barrhead Travel, said: “Giving back to charities and our local communities is a huge part of life at Barrhead Travel.

“We work with so many local and nationwide charities, as well as charities making an impact across the world, such as Just a Drop.

“We are delighted we have been able to raise the funds needed for Songeni School and are in the process of selecting the next Just a Drop project to work towards.”
