BUILDERS went back to school this week to help teach children about the construction industry.

Representatives from Miller Homes paid a visit to St Mark’s Primary, in Barrhead, to take part in a workshop on how new homes are constructed.

Pupils from the school’s technology club donned hi-vis vests and hard hats as they learned about the process of building from the ground up.

Brogan McFlynn, a class teacher at St Mark’s Primary, said: “The session was excellent.

“The kids learned a lot about how technology is used and that is closely tied to what we do in the club.

“It is important for the pupils to see the link between what they learn in school and how this can benefit them in later life.”

The interactive session with Miller’s associate technical director Tom Cahill and sales executive Tom Johnston gave the children an insight into how family homes are built.

This included the initial design plans, the materials used for construction and the building process itself.

The session was arranged after Miller Homes unveiled its new Springhill Meadows development in Barrhead, offering a range of two to five bedroom properties.

Mr Cahill said: “The pupils at St Mark’s technology club were extremely interested in the range of topics we covered and asked some great questions too.

“It’s really important for us at Miller Homes to have a presence in the local community and we enjoy delivering workshops such as this one.

“Hopefully we will have inspired the next generation of builders.”
