It may have been delayed by the wintry weather but there was no stopping the pupils at a Barrhead school as they embraced World Book Day.
Youngsters at St John’s Primary dressed up as a variety of literary characters, with wizards taking the Express all the way from Hogwarts, while Amazonian demigod Wonder Woman also popped in.
Organisers said the celebrations – which had been put on hold for a fortnight due to the adverse weather – were well worth the wait.
Teacher Jane McCulloch, who joined in the fun by transforming herself into Gangsta Granny for the day, said: “It was fantastic. Staff and pupils were all dressed up and we had a real variety of costumes.
“Staff really bought into it and were very engaged with everything that was going on.
“Children love dressing up and getting a day where they can do different activities.”
The event was also a chance to encourage pupils to discover the joy of reading, with the hope this will stay with them for life.
As well as taking part in a book swap, there were lots of opportunities to concentrate on reading.
The school’s very own Gangsta Granny added: “Lots of kids were happy to relax on a beanbag with a book.”
