BOWLERS have rallied round to support a Barrhead club that faced an uncertain future after a falling tree caused extensive damage.

The Barrhead News revealed last week how members of Arthurlie Bowling Club were horrified to learn a tree had crashed into their clubhouse, with much of the building being completely destroyed.

The incident took place in the early hours of Monday, January 29, when the town was being battered by strong winds.

Luckily, no-one was inside the building when the tree came crashing down.

Keith White, chairman of the management board at Arthurlie Bowling Club, told how other bowlers have been quick to offer their support.

He said: “The likes of Barrhead and Shanks bowling clubs have offered their help and said we can use their clubhouse if we want to arrange meetings.

“We hope that, by March, we should be in a more stable position.”

Mr White added: “It is early days at the moment as we are still waiting to hear back from the likes of the council, assessors and demolition contractors but, in terms of the bowling season in April, we are still able to play as usual.

“While the clubhouse has been destroyed, there is a separate portable cabin to store bowls and to change.”
