CHILDREN at a Barrhead trampoline club are jumping headfirst into the new year, with lots of practise planned for the competition season.

Alba Trampolining Club, based at the Barrhead Community Sports Hub, is run by a hard-working team of volunteers and registered with both Scottish Gymnastics and British Gymnastics.

It caters for those aged from four to 17, with recreational and competitive classes on offer throughout the week.

Participants can learn at their own pace and there are a range of groups catering to all abilities, with coaches on hand to guide each youngster.

Class co-ordinator Helen Aird told the Barrhead News: “There are fun and competitive sessions for mixed age groups, a boys team and elite.

“Many of our students start young and stay on until they are adults and we even have some young adults returning for classes.

“We work closely with community groups in the area and everyone from all ages and levels are welcome.

“We take everyone in, regardless of their ability and background.”

As it is coming up for official competition season, the Alba team have been training hard as they hope to qualify for the British Championships.

It is hoped that a total of 22 youngsters from the Barrhead group will be taking part this year, aged from seven to 17.

And, next month, 17-year-old student Katie Gallagher will be heading to Portugal to compete in the Cascais Beach Cup.

Helen added: “We take in new kids every other week, so if you fancy trying something new, we’d love to see you.”
