A POPULAR satirical news website which pokes light-hearted fun at Neilston and Barrhead has launched a 2018 calendar which will help boost good causes.

The Neilston News will donate all profits from its tongue-in-cheek product to community groups including Neilston Wasps, which will receive 25 per cent of the final takings.

Funds will also be distributed to events and groups run by the Neilston Development Trust.

Set up by villager Stewart McKenzie last year, the Neilston News Facebook page has been making light of local and national issues in the style of popular sites such as The Daily Mash.

And with more than 4,500 Facebook users now following the account, 29-year-old Stewart is hopeful the concept will prove successful.

Featuring a humorous news article each month, the calendars feature a mixture of stories on specific characters and wider issues.

Former Eastwood High pupil Stewart told the Barrhead News: “The calendar contains 12 new news articles, six of which will be about individuals from around the village and another six general ones.

“With the orders received, the calendars have already made money for these groups.

“I’m leaving dates pretty open-ended as want to try and sell as many as possible before the New Year.

“I’m going to be delivering calendars around Neilston myself on Saturday so any calendars ordered before then will be delivered then.

“Any orders from the village next week will be delivered on December 23.

“Any orders from outside of the village will be posted as soon as possible.”

Stewart was also eager to point out that the calendars contain some swear words, “for emphasis”.

Calenders will cost £10 and are set to be delivered around the village by Stewart himself, starting this Saturday.

Postage is £2.95 including packaging fee for orders from outside of Neilston.
