THOUSANDS of revellers turned out to bring the festive season in with a big Barrhead bang.
Crowds of more than 5,500 people attended the fireworks display, with two charities benefitting to the tune of more than £1,000. from their generosity.
Around 300 children visited the Santa’s Grotto at £3 a time, and each of them receiving a gift.
Another 200 children took part in face painting and 400 children went along to the Christmas cinema.
“It is definitely the biggest and best Christmas event we have ever staged,” said Andy Dunlop, manager of Barrhead Business Improvement Development, which organised the event.
“We held it in the Foundry car park this year, which gave us much more space and allowed for more people to attend.”
The organisers ran a Christmas Jumper Design competition with the local primary school’s in Barrhead, with Elle Pollock, 10, a pupil at Carlibar Primary, chosen as the winner from 1,000 entries.
Her prize was to set off the magnificent fireworks display at the event. There were also 10 runners-up prizes of a ride on the Santa and Elf train.
Others taking part were guitarist Ryan Hassan and his band The Logan Band, as well as plenty of entertainment from the 3rd Barrhead and District Pipe Band.
