PRIVATE registration plates have been stolen from a car parked at Barrhead train station.

Police investigating the incident, which took place last Thursday, are seeking help from commuters and residents who were in the Carlibar Road area that afternoon.

Officers say finding the stolen plates could prevent a future crime from taking place.

Sergeant Michael Morganthaler, of Giffnock Police Station, said: “We are investigating a theft of private number plates from a silver Mercedes parked at Barrhead train station on the afternoon of Thursday, November 23.

“We would encourage any members of the public who witnessed any persons acting suspiciously in the area to contact police, as stolen plates are often used in other crimes.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
