There was plenty of fun on the agenda for schoolkids back in 2007, thanks to a great line-up of activities organised for the October school break.

Barrhead Sports Centre had a packed schedule for children, including golf, mini-tennis and badminton camp and a children’s play camp.

The emphasis was on improving fitness while having fun, with organisers pointing out that the dark winter nights made it difficult for youngsters to get outside to exercise.

Barrhead Library also held a number of creative workshops for younger children during the week.

The kids got into the spooky spirit in the build-up to Hallowe’en by taking part in a Creepy Crafts workshop which saw them make their own hats and costumes, as well as listen to stories, courtesy of the library team.

A particular highlight was the mini-tennis coaching sessions, which taught a range of skills, including teamwork, agility and hand-eye co-ordination.

A spokesman for Barrhead Sports Centre said: “All of the children who got involved really gave it their all and made the most of each activity.

“It was a great week.”
