A HOUSING association has launched an investigation after a 60-year-old Barrhead woman was forced to endure a three-year “living nightmare” caused by her home flooding, writes Monica Gibson.

Catherine Davidson was forced to redecorate her Stewart Street home four times after contractors called out persistently failed to fix the problem.

One bungling contractor even mistakenly told the Barrhead Housing Association (BHA) tenant human waste was leaking into her kitchen – causing her to be physically sick.

Her daughter Laura Graham told the Barrhead News: “My mum is 60. She has health problems and doesn’t keep well but this has made her much worse.

“She doesn’t want to cause problems but there are times she can’t get out her bed because this is all too much. It’s disgusting.”

Ms Davidson first reported the leak to BHA in December 2014, but repairs were not carried out correctly by three separate contractors causing the property to flood again.

Ms Graham added: “Their contractors did not do the job properly.

“Mum has had to re-decorate her bathroom, kitchen and her hall again.

“The last time, she didn’t complain even though she was out of pocket.

“The thing is, the job has not been done right from the start, so she has had several joiners out – over and over – to supposedly have fixed this problem but they have failed.”

This week, BHA confirmed there was nothing Ms Davidson could have done to prevent the flooding – which it has since learned was caused by a broken stack pipe in the kitchen – and promised a full independent review of its handling of the situation.

A spokesman said: “Looking back at the history of this repair, it is clear that there would have been damage and inconvenience caused to the family.

“We are currently undertaking a complete and full stage two investigation.

“This will look specifically at: the work undertaken by thee different contractors who were all involved in this ongoing issue; the inappropriate and inaccurate comment made by a contractor regarding the ‘human waste’ which caused undue stress and worry to the family.”
