A FUN day at Auchenback Resource Centre was a roaring success...with a little help from a special guest.

More than 1,000 people flocked to the centre, in Aurs Road, Barrhead, for the event, where they were able to meet a giant model dinosaur.

Children were also able to enjoy the likes of balloon modelling and a bouncy castle.

But the event also had a more serious message to convey, as a team of first responders were joined by representatives of Voluntary Action East Renfrewshire and other community groups to give out handy hints on how to stay safe and be more eco-friendly.

Organisers hoped people would be enticed inside by the smell of home baking but leave with vital information on safety, volunteering and energy saving.

Irene Simpson, volunteer and organiser at the Auchenback Resource Centre, said: “It was a great success, I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many people turn up.

“We were worried about the weather but it turned out fine and there really was something for everyone to keep them busy and entertained.

“My feet are sore but all the hard work paid off as everyone had a great time.”

East Renfrewshire provost Jim Fletcher and councillor Angela Convery also enjoyed the fun day and have thanked all those who were involved.

Cllr Fletcher added: “The event was very well attended by local people and was a great success. It was particularly pleasing to see so many families there and to see children enjoying fun events like face painting and bouncy castles.

“Grateful thanks are due to all the organisations that took part and offered up their staff to attend and provided a whole raft of safety advice on a variety of issues to local people.

“Particular praise is due to the board members of Auchenback Active for their hard work in organising and running the event and for the hospitality provided to those who came along.

“We all owe them a great debt of gratitude.”
