TWO people are expected to stand trial later this month accused of battering a woman with a baseball bat after forcing their way into a Barrhead flat.

Nicholas Junior Cameron and Lynn Marie Burns are accused of attacking Theresa McGettigan on April 2 this year.

Papers lodged at Paisley Sheriff Court state that, whilst acting together, they forced entry to a flat in Kerr Street and repeatedly struck Ms McGettigan on the head and body with a baseball bat and pieces of furniture or “similar implements”.

The alleged attack on Ms McGettigan is said to have left her badly hurt and scarred for life.

Cameron and Burns are also accused of stealing a mobile phone and a wall-mounted telephone from the same property on the same day.

Burns, 43, faces a further two charges - that she assaulted Ms McGettigan and another woman some four days before the alleged baseball bat attack.

She is said to have assaulted Ms McGettigan and Michelle McLean in Main Street, Barrhead, on March 29 this year by throwing a cup and its contents over them.

Burns also faces a charge of breaking Section 38(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 with her alleged behaviour on the same day, which is said to have been threatening or abusive and likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.

She denies gesticulating in a threatening manner towards Ms McLean, threatening violence against her and getting into a stand-up fight with her.

Cameron, 34, also faces a charge of breaking Section 38(1) of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010.

Prosecutors claim that, on April 4 this year, two days after the alleged baseball bat attack, he gesticulated in a threatening manner towards Ms McLean and Ms McGettigan in Barrhead’s Main Street.

Cameron and Burns denied their guilt when they appeared in the dock at court last week.

Sheriff Linda Smith continued the case against both accused for a further pre-trial hearing to take place this week, to allow Burns to obtain Legal Aid.
