REPTILES ruled at a resource centre in Barrhead as youngsters got up close and personal with lizards.

The special workshop gave children the chance to overcome fears and learn some fun facts about various exotic animals.

Auchenback Resource Centre played host to the event as part of the Scales and Tails summer academy.

Set up by Rachael and Kevin Campbell, Scales and Tails takes creatures such as lizards, snakes, hedgehogs and insects on tour so kids can find out more about the natural world.

Scales and Tails not only throw memorable parties but also aim to educate everyone about exotic animals and to show everyone how amazing these animals truly are.

The summer club started earlier this month and is designed to educate the next generation on each species.

Over the course of six sessions, children will learn about how to spot animals in the wild and how they can keep some as pets.

At the end of the camp, each of the budding David Attenboroughs receives an award as proof of their newly-acquired wildlife knowledge.

Through their interactive sessions, Scales and Tails also teach subjects which are in line with the national curriculum and can even bring the rainforest to the classroom.
