YOUNG newshounds at a Barrhead school were out and about before starting their summer holidays.

Among the events covered by the St Luke’s High Press Club was the school’s ‘Make Your Dreams Come True’ trip.

Emily Wilson grasped the opportunity to participate in the range of activities on offer and then provide some feedback on the event.

Here is her report:

Pupils from St Luke’s High travelled to Lochgoilhead for a confidence-building adventure.

Taking part in the three-day trip were S2 pupils Hayley Henderson and Sionah Sherlock, as well as S6 pupils Marissa Roxburgh, Ilona Geddes, Alisa McEwan and Kate Ganley, accompanied by school teacher Miss Chase.

Also there were groups from other schools, including Barrhead High, the Isobel Mair School, Mearns Castle High, Williamwood High, St Ninian’s High and Woodfarm High.

The pupils were paired in a buddy system before getting stuck into team-building exercises on the Friday night.

The pupils then got a well-earned rest and woke ready for the new challenges in the morning.

Saturday was a busy day consisting of activities such as canoeing, climbing Jacob’s ladder, high ropes, sailing, forrest walking and archery and searching for water creatures on the beach.

Everyone had a wonderful time and, although thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The pupils were exhausted, they still had enough energy for a disco and talent show, where they showcased their incredible skills.

The pupils travelled home on the Sunday, tired and mucky but ecstatic from the weekend’s activities after making new friends and tackling fears.

They were also looking forward to telling their friends, parents and carers all about their trip.
