A GROUP of kind-hearted Barrhead golfers clubbed together to raise more than £2,000 for a cancer charity.

The funds generated by a Captain’s Day and Ladies Lunch at Fereneze Golf Club will help the Beatson Cancer Charity to carry on supporting patients and their families.

Charity bosses will use the cash to help hire more staff in nursing, radiography, physics and research-based posts.

Beatson staff say the windfall will assist educational initiatives which support the 8,000 new patients who attend its West of Scotland Cancer Centre in Glasgow and its satellite locations each year.

The money will also fund enhanced medical equipment, service developments and research projects.

David Pierotti, captain of Fereneze Golf Club, said: “We wanted to help a charity that our members could relate to and Beatson Cancer Charity touches the lives of so many in our community of Barrhead.

“I am delighted that our Captain’s Day and Ladies Lunch raised this tremendous amount and we are going to continuing supporting the Beatson and their determination to beat cancer over the next year.”

Maisie Hamilton, community fundraising manager at the Beatson Cancer Charity, met with David at Silverburn Shopping Centre, where he is the centre manager.

She said: “We were delighted to benefit from the wonderful fundraising activities at Fereneze Golf Club.

“The generosity of the golfers will have a direct impact on thousands of cancer patients and their families, both now and in the future, through the dedicated work of the charity.”

The Beatson Cancer Charity provides a comprehensive range of wellbeing, specialist and complementary therapy services.

These are delivered by staff and volunteers through a unique and award-winning wellbeing centre and Beatson Cancer Centre and related facilities across the west of Scotland.

The organisation relies on fundraising activity to generate income.
